METAD's livelihood support has a slightly broader reach than its other programs but It encompasses people's capabilities, assets, income and activities required to secure the necessities of life.
Linda of Arkansas is a 19+ year cancer survivor living day-to-day on SS disability. After an earthquake, her home had moved slightly causing some of the HVAC pipe to come loose. She didn't have the financial means to fix the system, nor did she have the physical strength to crawl under the house to access and reattach the system where needed. Heat was escaping outdoors, and even after a mild winter, the heating bills were off the chart.
All of Linda's spendable cash was going to food, basic living bills, and medicine. There was simply nothing left for her to give to fix the heating/cooling system. After facing the decision to either pay for heating/cooling or medicine, she requested help from METAD. Her request was answered with an immediate payment to a local company to fix the home. Linda could live without worrying about allotting money to bills or paying for medication.
